Do Homework in a Smart Way    [25-04-2009]

As a student, you have to do homework almost every day. Homework is a big part of your school life. It¡¯s your teacher¡¯s way of helping you learn more. Homework is also a good way to review what you have learned at school. But sometimes you forget to do it and get in trouble. You don¡¯t want this to happen again, do you?
This week, why don¡¯t you learn how to do your homework successfully?
First of all, you have to know what you have to do for your homework. Write your homework down in your notebook. If you don¡¯t write it down, you can forget about it later. You don¡¯t want to see your teacher¡¯s mad face the next day, right? If you don¡¯t understand your homework correctly, ask your teacher. Don¡¯t be afraid to ask questions. Otherwise, you might have a hard time doing it later. You might also waste your time thinking about what to do.

Once you know what you have to do for homework, try to finish it on time. Use any extra time you have at school to work on your homework. If you can get some part of your homework done at school, you can have more free time after school. If you don¡¯t finish your homework during school, think about how much you have left and what else is going on that day. Then, plan your time.

Before you start doing your homework at home, look around first. You need to do it in a quiet place. But it¡¯s not a good idea to do your homework on your bed. You may fall asleep while doing it! Sit at your desk and turn off the TV. Try to focus on your homework.
When you start your homework, do the hardest part first. This is because you have the most energy and focus when you begin. So, it¡¯s best to use your energy on the subjects that are most difficult. Later, when you are tired, you can focus on the easier things. If you get stuck on a problem, do your best to figure it out. But don¡¯t spend too much time on it. This can mess up your homework schedule. Ask your parents, older brother or sister for help. You can also call and ask your classmate. But don¡¯t spend time talking about other things!

Taking a break is very important, too. Take some breaks while doing your homework. Sitting for too long without resting will make you feel tired easily. It is a good idea to take a 15-minute break every hour. Once your homework is done, put it safely in your school bag. The next day, show off your homework at school!
