Today
is Parents' Day. On Parent¡¯s Day, we thank our parents for their endless love. You don¡¯t have
to spend a lot of money to thank
them. A nice card and a hug will make your parents
very happy. Oh, don¡¯t forget to say ¡°I love you!¡±
A pretty carnation can be a great
gift, too. But why do we give carnations to our parents? This week, let¡¯s
learn about the meaning of carnations.
Today, carnations are loved by many people all over the world. People
use them on special days. They use the
flowers on Parents¡¯ Day, Teachers¡¯ Day and at weddings and parties. The
beautiful flower is the state flower of Ohio in America. It is also
the January birth flower.
The carnation is called the ¡°flower of love¡± or ¡°flower of the gods.¡±
There are about 300 kinds of carnations in the
world. They are native to the Eastern Hemisphereµ¿¹Ý±¸. Today, they are
found in fields around the world.
Many countries grow them in greenhouses, too.
People started using carnations in art and decor in ancient Greek and Roman times. Back then, carnations
came in only pink and peach. But today, they come in many different colors including red, yellow, white,
purple, and even green!
Carnations have many meanings. Usually, they mean ¡°attraction,¡± ¡°excellence,¡± and ¡°love.¡±
But like many other flowers, different messages can also be expressed through the flower¡¯s
different color varieties. For example, light red carnations often
used to express ¡°admiration.¡± Dark red carnations express
¡°affection.¡± White carnations
mean ¡°pure love¡± and ¡°good luck,¡± and pink carnations
are often given as a sign of ¡°gratitude.¡± In the early
20th century, carnations became
the official flower of Mother¡¯s
Day in America.
Today, carnations are still popular all around the world.
In fact, in many countries,
carnations are the most popular flowers. Many people prefer them to roses. This is because they
last longer and have a refreshing aroma.
So, why don¡¯t you give your parents pretty carnations on Parents¡¯
Day to express your love? |
