 Deer are wild animals and they are
usually afraid of people. But if
you visit the Butera family in Ohio, you will be very surprised. The
family keeps a deer as a pet! The deer gets along
well with people and even with other animals!
The name of the special deer is Dillie. She is 5 years old. She was
abandoned by her mother at birth. She was almost dead when Dr. Melanie Butera,
who is a veterinarian, found her.
She brought the baby deer home to cure her. Since then, Dillie started
living with the Butera family inside the house!
“Dillie is just part of the family now,” said Dr. Butera. “Dillie
has lived with my family for more than 5 years. She knows her name
and whenever I call her, she comes to me. She is like my daughter.
We have a very special relationship.”
 Dillie has
her own bedroom and even knows
how to use the bathroom! In summer, she swims in the family pool with
the children. She eats homemade meals of human food. She
likes to eat salad, pasta and fresh berries. But her favorite food
is ice cream! What an interesting pet!
The Buteras also have a dog and 2 cats. “Dillie grew up in the house
with them, and she thinks they are also part of her family,” Dr. Butera
said. “Dillie thinks the dog is her mom and they’re very close to
each other.” Wow! What an unusual family! They have
4 different pets as family members. |
