We
are kids. And we have feelings too! Yes, we all have emotions. And it hurts when
people say not nice things. Well, oftentimes our parents hurt us with words. Of course
they don¡¯t mean it. Oftentimes parents don¡¯t even know that the words
are hurtful. Have you heard of
a T.V. channel called EBS? It¡¯s an educational channel. A show from
EBS recently did a survey on 1500 elementary
school kids. They asked, ¡°What kind of words hurt you the most?¡± Do
you want to know how the kids answered? Let¡¯s find out.
What kind of words do you think placed first on the list?
Yup, you may have guessed it right. It had something to do with studying.
At first was, ¡°Why don¡¯t you study?¡± 38.8 percent of 1500 kids said
this hurts the most. I think the reason is understandable. Parents have
high expectations of us. They
want us to be great students.
Well,
yes, it¡¯s all because they want us to get good grades and later go to a
good university. But, don¡¯t you think they push us too much sometimes?
You know, we can¡¯t always get good grades. Why don¡¯t you tell this
figure to your parents today?
Don¡¯t get angry or show frustration. If your parents are pushing you,
just tell them you are trying your best. And if you get hurt again
by the same thing, let your parents know. You see, your parents are
much older than you. This is why sometimes it¡¯s hard to understand
each other. I mean, we are different generations, right? So, talk
to your parents about this. I bet they will understand.
Next up
on the list is, ¡°Lose some weight and grow.¡± Ah, I am no longer a
kid, but these words still hurt me very much. No one is proud about their image.
When someone comes along and says this, it¡¯s so painful. It¡¯s good
to stay in shape. But, hey,
we all have different looks and body shapes. I think it¡¯s really mean to talk about someone¡¯s
looks in a bad way. Please remember this. Your friends may be laughing,
but when they hear fat jokes or height jokes, they are crying inside. Adults should know
this too! It¡¯s not a good idea to say such things. It will destroy a kid¡¯s self esteem.
Last on the list was, ¡°Kids don¡¯t have to know! It¡¯s only for adults.¡±
Well, I guess this isn¡¯t as hurtful as the rest. Still, kids are full
of curiosity, right? We all
have the right to know! Adults are right in one way. There are things
kids can¡¯t understand. Some things we will learn in time. However,
adults have the responsibility to explain
such things to kids. A simple, ¡±You don¡¯t have to know,¡± is quite
mean.
Whenever an adult hurts your feelings with words, don¡¯t keep them
inside you. Speak out, and explain why
you feel hurt. It¡¯s a good idea to relieve such pain right there and
then. |
