Do
you know the meaning of the word, ¡°metabolism?¡± Yeah, it may
be a new word for most of you. Well, let me give you a hint here.
What happens to the food you eat?
Well, once it goes into your stomach, what happens? The
body digests the food, right?
After digestion, the food is broken
into different kinds of energy. The blood takes different kinds
of energy and goodies to all parts of your body. After eating, digestion
takes place. After that, your body gets fueled. In a way, digestion
is how the body turns food into fuel. All this is the process of metabolism.
Some people have fast metabolism. And some people have slow metabolism.
Either way, fast is better than slow. When the body¡¯s metabolism is
slow, food gets digested slowly. A person with slow metabolism can
gain extra weight. What kind of people have slow metabolism? People
that don¡¯t like to exercise and just eat too much. When you exercise,
the body needs extra energy. It must make more fuel. It¡¯s because
more muscles in the body are working.
Metabolism is like a habit. Let¡¯s say you are lazy. And you stayed
that way all throughout the summer vacation. The body will get used
to that. And the metabolism will be slow. So, even if you exercise,
it will stay that way. You have to exercise hard every day to break
the body¡¯s habit. Let¡¯s say you are very active. If you always like
to move and exercise, your metabolism will be high. And even when
you are lazy for one day, you will still have high metabolism. So,
wouldn¡¯t it be better to exercise regularly? Now you know why!
There are
foods that can speed up your metabolism! No, they are not ice cream
and chocolate cake! Foods like vegetables, fruits, fish, and grains are wonderful. Did
you know that some proteins and fats in fish
can increase your metabolism? You know, your parents always say, ¡°Eat
your vegetables! Eat in variety!¡± Yes, folks, there is a reason
for everything. Simply eating healthy can keep you fit. So, this summer,
eat smart and get active. Remember! Your body loves making habits.
And a habit is hard to break. So, make the good choice! |
