When
we were babies, we all scribbled with crayons. We were free to
write or draw what we wanted. And it didn¡¯t matter if it looked neat or not. Now, we are
bigger. And we must use pens and pencils instead of crayons to write
neatly. Some are naturally talented. Sadly, some of
us really hate to put pencil to paper.
Did your parents or teacher ever complain to you about your
handwriting? ¡°What is this?¡± ¡°This is far too messy!¡± ¡°I can¡¯t read this.¡±
Jeez, I heard such things countless times when I was
kid. So, Kids Times readers, you guys are not alone in this.
There¡¯s
some good news. Just about anyone can improve their handwriting.
Handwriting is something that requires the body and the
mind to do many things at once. The shoulder must stay steady. And the wrist and elbow need to move in the
right way. That¡¯s not all. You need to think about the words and letters.
It¡¯s a difficult task. Here are some tips
to help you have good handwriting.
¨ç Follow the lines! Lined paper is great for
writing. The lines can help you write letters that are the right size.
¨è Get a strong grip. Holding your pencil
the right way is important. Try holding your pencil at the top and
try to write your name. Tough, right? The best way
is to hold a pencil next to the base of your thumb. Hold it in place with
your thumb, and your index and middle fingers.
¨é If you
find it hard to write neatly, try slowing down. When you rush, it¡¯s hard to control where you stop and
start your letters.
¨ê Don¡¯t press too hard? Have you
ever ripped the paper because
you put too much pressure? Try easing up. Let your pencil mark the
paper without going all the way through. You
will break fewer pencil points.
¨ë Play more games. Did you hear this right? Yes, I said, play more
games. Many board games require you to
write or draw. This is a great way to practice in a fun way. Also,
playing games like Jenga will help your hand muscles grow stronger.
¨ì Practice your signature! Imagine that you
are celebrity. All celebrities
give signatures to their fans! So, this is a good way to practice. |
