you think is the richest person in the world? Many of you probably
think of Bill Gates. Of course, he is very rich. In fact, he is America’s
richest person. However, he is not the world’s richest man anymore.
Then, who has the biggest fortune in the world?
Say hello to the world’s new, wealthiest man, Carlos Slim from Mexico.
According to Forbes magazine, he recently turned out to have the most
wealth on Earth, beating Bill Gates. The magazine lists the world’s
richest people every year. Mr. Slim is the first non-American from
a developing country to top the list of billionaires in nearly 15
years.
 Mr. Slim was born on January 28, 1940 in Mexico City. He studied engineering
at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. After graduation,
he became an engineer and businessman. His main business is the telecommunications.
Now, he controls a major part of telecommunications industry in Mexico
as well as in many other countries in Latin America. His telecom company
controls 83 percent of land phone lines in Mexico. It is also the
leading Internet service provider. He also owns huge department stores
in Mexico.
Currently, Mr. Slim has a $53.5 billion fortune. However, he doesn’t
get excited about the fact that he is now the richest man in the world.
Even though he has a lot of money, he is known to wear inexpensive
suits. He also enjoys a simple life style.
In Mexico, the majority of people are very poor. Mr. Slim often donates
a lot of money to help people in need. “Wealth must be seen as responsibility,
not as a privilege. The responsibility is to create more wealth,”
said Mr. Slim. Please keep making a lot of money and help many people,
