 Many
young girls dream of becoming a ballerina when they grow up. Ballerinas are very
beautiful. They look like dancing swans! There are many wonderful
male ballet dancers in the
world, too. But have you ever seen a grandpa ballet dancer?
It’s hard to believe, but there is a very old male ballet dancer in
Britain. Look at the picture! The grandpa is dancing ballet! In fact, he is the oldest ballet dancer
in England! His name is John Lowe. He is a grandpa of 11 grandchildren. Can you guess how old he is? Don’t
be surprised. He is 91 years
old! He is very old, but he is a great dancer!
Mr. Lowe is a retired soldier who fought
in Malaysia and India in the Second World War. Now, he
is an art teacher and a theater director. He started
learning ballet at the age of 79. Now, he is a wonderful ballet dancer
and performs with young dancers
who are more than half of his age. He got his first starring role three years
ago at the age of 88.
 “I love
performing on stage. Dancing is the most amazing feeling. Listening
to beautiful music also makes me very happy. I always come home with
a happy smile,” said Mr. Lowe. “I just love dancing. Ballet is a fantastic exercise, too. Look at me.
I look very healthy and fit, don’t I? If you want
to stay in shape, you should
do ballet, too!”
The oldest ballet dancer in England practices three times a week at a studio
near his house. He also practices his pirouettes at home. He even
installed a trapeze on his living room ceiling and hangs from it each morning to increase his muscle power.
