Recently some sad news shocked the nation. Two teenagers commited suicide. They were only high school students. An investigation revealed that they were bullied in school. Although we are only in elementary school or junior high school, there are still bullies. As a matter of fact, bullies are everywhere. How should we deal with bullies? Not many know the answer because they don¡¯t think such horrible things will happen to them. Well, you never know. So, let¡¯s learn a few ways to protect ourselves.

Surround Yourself with Friends
School is a place where many different kids come to study. At school, there are many different characters. Some are outgoing, some are shy, and some are violent. The first thing you need to remember is that you have to accept the fact that you must co-exist and mingle with kids that aren¡¯t similar to you. Simply put, try to be everyone¡¯s friend. Bullies tend to pick on a kid who is left out of the circle. Don¡¯t be that kid. Have a good relationship with everyone. Bullies may look stronger and more powerful. However, that isn¡¯t the case. They only pick on the weak. When you have many friends surrounding you, bullies will leave you alone.

Do Not Become a Bully¡¯s Friend
As kids we are easily intimidated. Yes, sometimes we follow and do the same things our friends do. There¡¯s a saying that you can tell a person¡¯s character by looking at his or her friends. This is very true. Being friendly to everyone is a good thing. However, if your friend is doing something wrong, you shouldn¡¯t do the same. Have the courage to speak up and tell your friend that he or she is wrong. Kids tend to follow the stronger friend or crowd in the circle. Do not be a part of it. This will only turn you into a bully as well. Do you like to make fun of other kids? Put yourself in their shoes. Being a bully doesn¡¯t always mean you are violent or verbally abusive. If you are trying to be a part of a certain group that ignores the unpopular kids, you are no different than a bully.

Don¡¯t Let Things Get to You
Everyone gets made fun of at one time or another during school years. Even the most popular kid in school has his or her embarrassing moments. This is all part of growing up. Of course sometimes you will feel sad or angry. But don¡¯t let such things get to you. Learn to laugh about it. The moment you start becoming emotional, you will quickly lose your confidence. This is like sinking in quicksand. The more you think about it, the deeper you will fall. Bullying is something you can¡¯t change. It will always be around. Luckily, you have the power to ignore it. Move on with your school life. Make lots of friends, be active, and study hard. Keep yourself in one piece, and understand that you are the one in control of yourself. Keep your head up high. The more you look sad and weak, the more bullies and their friends will bother you. Have confidence in yourself. Be yourself, and be proud. Believe me, bullies will soon leave you alone.
