America, a very special contest is held every year
in March. The contest is called the “Rotten Sneaker Contest.” The competitors bring something special to
win the contest. So, what do they bring? Their smelly sneakers! Of course,
the smellier the better! Usually, the winners of the
contest have been boys. But this year, an 11-year-old girl won the
contest!
The 2010 National Rotten Sneaker Contest was held on March 23 in Vermont. The name of the
winner is Trinette Robinson. Yes, that’s right, she has the smelliest
sneakers in America! Her sneakers stink so much that they beat out competitors from
all across the country.
 The sneakers
were judged on their overall condition, such as their
soles, heels, and laces. Of course, the odor was the most important
factor! So, how dirty and smelly were Robinson’s
sneakers?
Her white and pink sneakers turned gray and brown after having been
worn for 3 years. The soles also fell off and the seams were all frayed. Her
sneakers will now be displayed in the “Hall
of Fumes” in Vermont.
Robinson received a trophy as well as 2,500 dollars. She was also
given a free trip to New York City to see “The Lion King” on Broadway!
“I feel really happy,” she said about winning. “Words can’t explain how happy I am!”
