Time
to Fly the Sky!
Are
you afraid of heights? Well, it seems like
many Europeans enjoy jumping from high cliffs. Take a look at this photo.
A man is flying the sky like Superman. He is getting ready to dive into the water below.
Recently in a small European country called Montenegro, there was
a diving competition. The competition
is called Vizier Bridge, and it¡¯s an annual event where hundreds
of brave people from all over
Europe come to compete. Can you imagine
jumping from a cliff that is 21 meters high? Yeah, it might sound
easy. But once you stay on top of the cliff and look at the waters
below, you will sure freak out! There¡¯s no big
prize for the best diver. But the winner receives loud applause from the spectators.
A Floating Hospital
Here¡¯s
a question. What would hundreds of navy soldiers or sailors do if they get hurt
in a battle? I mean, if only a
few of them got sick or hurt, they could be treated in the ship. But
if a large number of them need
to get surgery or medical examination, they would have
to go to a hospital. Sadly, that would be a very difficult thing to
do in the middle of the ocean.
Well, to solve that problem, the U.S.
made a large floating hospital. The ship
you see in the photo is a size of a large navy battle ship. This ship
is fully designed to be a perfect
hospital. It has surgery rooms, patient rooms and even examination
rooms. And the coolest thing is that the ship is filled with the world¡¯s
best doctors. The ship¡¯s name is Comfort, and it provides medical service to 85,000
navy soldiers every year.
Is This Lake for Real?
First, take
a look at the photo. Isn¡¯t it beautiful? I bet most of you are scratching
your head and saying, £¢This looks like a photo-shopped picture.£¢
Well, this is a real photo, and it isn¡¯t photo-shopped. Can you see
how clear the water is? It¡¯s so clean that it¡¯s showing off the reflection of the mountain
nearby.
This marvelous lake is called
Oyskoye and it is in the Yergaki National Park in Russia. Scientists
say this is one of the very few lakes in the world that has no pollution at all. That¡¯s right! Zero
pollution. There are countless wild animals living near
this lake.
The Russian government recently announced that they will
work very hard and spend lots of money to protect the beautiful nature
of Lake Oyskoye.
Don¡¯t you want to visit this amazing lake someday? I sure do! |
