 There
are many interesting animals in the world. But have you seen a pig
that looks like a sheep? Just take a look at the pictures!
The animals in the pictures look like sheep, but they are actually
pigs!
The weird-looking pigs are the
Curly Coated Mangalitzas.
They do look like pigs in sheep’s clothing! The special pigs
come in three colors - bright red, blond, and black. Thanks to their
coat, their skin does not sun burn in the summer.
These pigs were very popular in the 1900s due to their ability to survive the cold winter days
and the fact that they could be turned into very tasty ham since they contain more fat than most
other pigs.
 Their woolly coats were also used
for clothing. Today, their hair is no longer used to make clothing.
Instead, it is being used
for tying fishing flies.
The number of the curly coated pigs has slowly decreased over the years.
Today, only a few left in Hungary and Austria. In the last few years,
there has been a movement in Britain to try
increase the number of the
pigs. A special breeding program has been
established at a zoo in Essex. Let’s hope to see many of the lovely
pigs soon! |
