Swimming
is a fun sport. It also makes your body strong because you get to move your arms and
legs constantly. But can a person
with no arms and legs swim, too? The answer is YES! A French man named
Philippe Croizon is an excellent swimmer even though he doesn¡¯t have
arms or legs. He is even preparing to swim the English Channel!
Yes, that¡¯s right. Nothing is impossible if you put your
heart into something. Mr. Croizon is the proof. The 41-year-old man
from France lost his arms and legs due to an electric shock in 1994. He
was totally healthy and strong
before the accident. But even after
he lost his limbs, he tried to live a
normal, happy life.
He decided
to swim the English Channel after watching a documentary about swimming
the Channel while he was in a hospital.
Since then, he went to a
nearby swimming pool to practice. But it wasn¡¯t easy
for him to swim without arms and legs. Of
course he didn¡¯t give up!
He has been training for up to 30 hours a week in
the pool and working out at a gym. He also practiced swimming
in the sea in France. ¡°The more I practice in the sea, the more I
feel confident,¡± he said. He has
built up enough muscle and body strength to try the
challenging Channel crossing. Now people call
him the ¡°Ironman.¡±
The English Channel is 35 kilometers long. The route would take him from
England to France. If he is successful, he will be recorded in the Guinness Book of
World Records. Mr. Croizon plans to swim across the English
Channel this summer. He will use special swimsuit and a pair of artificial legs with flippers to move through
the water. A medical team will accompany his special journey.
¡°This is a dream and I¡¯m determined to fulfill it,¡± said the amazing swimmer. Good luck
with your challenge, Mr. Croizon! You
can do it! |
