December 10, the 24th Golden Disk Awards was held at the Olympic Hall
in Seoul. All of the famous Korean singers participated
in the meaningful ceremony. It is the biggest
and most important music award ceremony in Korea. So, who won the
Grand Prize this year?
Sohn Dam-bi, 2PM, SG Wannabe, Epik High, Baek Ji-young, T-ara, Davichi,
4Minute, SHINee and many other popular singers all gathered together at the Olympic Park
last Thursday for the Golden
Disk Awards. The ceremony started in 1986 and it has been hold annually since then. At the ceremony,
outstanding singers receive
awards for their great achievements and hard work
for the past year.
Currently, there are seven
awards categories, including the Grand Prize,
Grand Prize of Digital Releasing,
Record of the Year, and Popularity
Award of the Year. The Grand Prize is awarded to the best singer of
the year. Last year, the famous boy band TVXQ won the Grand Prize.
So, who won the Grand Prize this year? Super Junior won it for their
album! This year has been especially special for them. They also
won the Record of the Year and Popularity Award of the Year!
 Girls’
Generation won the Grand Prize of Digital Releasing. The popular girl
band defeated very strong rivals such as Sohn Dam-bi,
Baek Ji-young and Davichi. “I’m very happy to win this significant prize. It wasn’t
easy for 9 girls to work together. But we believed in each other and
we could overcome all the difficulties!”
said Soo-young. “We love and care for each other very
much. That’s why we could accomplish such a big thing,”
Tiffany added.
SG Wannabe, Drunken Tiger, 2PM, and Lee Seung-chul also won for Record
of the Year. Baek Ji-young, Davichi, Sohn Dam-bi, and Lee Seung-ki
also won for Prize of Digital Releasing. Epik High won the Hip Hop
Record of the Year, and SHINee won the Popularity Award of the Year.
