Many
children love watching TV. Interestingly, monkeys also enjoy watching
TV! In a new study, Japanese scientists found that monkeys like watching
TV, just like humans.
The Japanese people love monkeys. So scientists from Kyoto University
wanted to know more about their behavior. The scientists
conducted an experiment to see if monkeys
like watching TV. In the experiment they studied a three-year-old
male monkey that really enjoyed a video of a circus elephant, giraffe, and tiger performing.
The researchers monitored the monkey¡¯s brain during the experiment. They
examined various aspects of the blood flow to the monkey¡¯s
brain while it was watching the television images. While watching
the performances of circus animals
on the television screen the monkey¡¯s brain became very active, reflecting his pleasure.
Humans and monkeys share many similarities.
Monkeys have a similar body structure to humans.
They also show similar behavior. They learn and store information in a similar way to humans,
too. Another recent study showed that
mother monkeys teach their babies how to floss their teeth in a similar
way to humans! How interesting! |
