Soccer
fever is very hot in South
Africa. The country is very excited about hosting the first ever World
Cup in the African continent. The World Cup
fever is even affecting the names of newborn
babies. In order to celebrate Africa¡¯s first
World Cup, many South African parents are giving their babies soccer-related names!
On the first day of the 2010 World Cup, many babies were born in South
Africa. South African parents celebrated the worldwide festival by giving
their babies unique names. For example, a baby girl,
who was born on June 11 when South Africa was playing a match against
Mexico, was named FIFA!
¡°Wow, I have a World Cup baby! I wanted to celebrate South Africa¡¯s
first World Cup in a special way. That¡¯s why I named my girl FIFA.
I¡¯m sure my daughter will be proud of her name when
she grows up,¡± said FIFA¡¯s mother.
The real
FIFA, the International Federation of Football Associations±¹Á¦Ã౸¿¬¸Í
is excited about the news. ¡°We are very happy to know that there is
a baby girl who shares the same name with
us. What an interesting and unique name!¡± said the FIFA spokeswoman Delia Fischer.
¡°We wish the family and the baby all the best!¡±
Twin boys, who were born
on the day of the opening match, were named
¡°Soccer City¡± and ¡°Ke Nako.¡± ¡°Soccer City¡± is the name of the stadium in Johannesburg,
and ¡°Ke Nako¡± is a World Cup slogan that means ¡°It is
time¡± in Zulu language.
Another couple also had twin boys during the opening match between
South Africa and Mexico, which ended in a 1-1 tie. They decided to name their boys after the
two teams - ¡°Bafana¡± and ¡°Mexico.¡± ¡°Bafana¡± is South Africa¡¯s nickname. ¡°I¡¯m giving them
those names to celebrate the first World Cup on African soil,¡± said the father of
the twins.
Let¡¯s wish all the World Cup babies and their families the best! |
