Happy New Year, everyone! Today is the first day of the year 2010! I¡¯m sure you want this year to be very special and successful in many ways. What do you want to accomplish this year? What are your New Year¡¯s resolutions? Making good resolutions is very important. But keeping them is even more important! So how can you make New Year¡¯s resolutions that you can keep?

New Year¡¯s Day is a perfect day to start your life anew. After eating a bowl of delicious rice cake soup with your family and exchanging New Year¡¯s greetings, go to your desk. Sit down quietly with a paper and pen. Then, think about the things you want to achieve this year. In fact, many children make New Year¡¯s resolutions. But not many children seem to keep them. Maybe it¡¯s because most of them don¡¯t know how to make New Year¡¯s resolutions they will enjoy keeping! Here are the easy steps to make goals you can keep.

* Step 1: Be realistic and set achievable goals. Don¡¯t set goals that are too high. For example, reading 100 books a week is not a realistic goal. Also, aim for things that are truly important to you - not what you think you should do or what others expect you to do.

* Step 2: Describe your resolutions specifically. Instead of ¡°I don¡¯t want to gain weight,¡± write down ¡°I will exercise regularly: three times a week,¡± or ¡°I will cut down on eating potato chips.¡±

* Step 3: Break down large goals into smaller ones. For example, if you plan to read 20 books in 2010, decide how many pages you will read a day. And of course, you have to make it a daily habit!

* Step 4: Instead of quitting a bad habit all of a sudden, find alternatives. If you have a habit of eating junk food, try to eat healthy snacks instead. For example, instead of munching on chips, enjoy eating fresh fruits or vegetables.

* Step 5: Remind yourself of your resolutions every day. And whenever you succeed in doing what you decided to do, praise yourself! Small successes will encourage you to achieve bigger goals in the end! Good luck, everyone!
