The 2010 World Cup is finally over. This year¡¯s champion is Spain. The country is very excited about its first World Cup victory. But a very special octopus named Paul already knew that Spain would win the World Cup!

Paul lives in the Sea Life Aquarium in Germany. He is 2 years old. He may look like a normal octopus, but he is extra special. He is called the ¡°oracle octopus.¡± This is because he almost always succeeds in predicting the winners of soccer matches!

Paul predicted that Spain would win the final match against the Netherlands on July 12 and become the champions. He also predicted Spain¡¯s victory in the match against Germany on July 8. In fact, he has successfully predicted the winners of all six 2010 World Cup matches involving Germany.

Before a soccer match, Paul¡¯s keepers put a mussel inside each of two clear plastic boxes bearing the national flags of the teams. Then, they put the boxes in Paul¡¯s tank. Paul then makes his choice by opening the lid with his tentacles and eating one of the mussels.

Does Paul really have magical powers? No one really knows the answer. Sadly, he may not be able to predict the winner of the 2014 World Cup. This is because he can only live for four years. He is already 2 years old. Let¡¯s hope Paul stays healthy until 2014!
