 Many
people keep goldfish at home in a tank. They are small, cute,
and usually bright orange in color. But are there big goldfish, too?
Of course there are! On July 15, a 16-year-old British boy named Nick Richards caught an unusually big goldfish.
When Nick was enjoying fishing in a lake in South West England with
his parents, he saw something orange under the water. He positioned his rod and bread bait in its direction and waited for
the fish to take a bite. A few seconds
later, the boy started reeling in his rod.
Nick was very surprised when he saw the fish on the end of his line;
it was a huge goldfish! It was 40 centimeters long and weighed 2.27 kilograms. “I’ve
never seen such a huge goldfish in my life!” said Nick. “Maybe it
had got too big for a house tank and someone dumped it in the lake,”
Nick said jokingly.
“Earlier in the day I’d joked that if I caught a
big fish, I’d call it Billy,” said Nick with a bright smile. According to Nick, Billy
looked very healthy. He put the huge goldfish back in the lake straight away. “Apparently, it’s the biggest
gold goldfish ever caught in the UK, so I’m very pleased and proud.”
