The
thought of going back to
school often makes you sad. That's because school means homework, waking up
early in the morning, teachers, classes, and sadly no more summer vacation! However,
the time is near to dust off your school books
and prepare to go back to school.
New semester is right around
the corner. Hey, why the long face? Look on the bright side! It could be a time
for making new friends, getting on your teacher's good side, and bumping
up some of your grades. After a relaxing summer vacation,
you are refreshed for school, right? So read this week's feature on getting ready
to go back to school!
Getting
Out of "Vacation Mode" and into "School Mode"
Say good-bye to sleeping
in late and hello to getting up early in the morning! It is time to
get back into "School Mode." You are probably used to sleeping in, playing
with your friends on week days, eating homemade lunches at your
house, and lots of TV, right? But it's better to start making little
changes towards getting ready for
school now. Maybe you can start catching up on some summer reading,
and flipping through your school books. Impress your friends and
teachers by showing them that you remember some things that you learned
before vacation started. Another tip is waking up earlier
in the morning a week before school starts. Otherwise, it will be hard
for you to get up early on your first day. You don't want to be tired. Other things that
you can do are put down those cookies and
ice cream and pick up some healthy fruits and vegetables.
When you are on vacation, it's easy to pig out on junk food. But if you start
eating healthier, you'll start feeling more energized! One last tip for
getting into school mode is to start gathering up your materials. Begin organizing
your pencils and notebooks so that you are prepared for school. If
you are missing something, maybe
you can ask your parents to take you to a stationery store. It's a
good opportunity to get some new
cool stuff!
New Start,
New Goals
Take advantage of this fresh
start! Your teachers will be refreshed, too. They will
be excited to teach you again
and want to see how much you remember. Forget about any bad grades
that you may have had. Start looking ahead to all the good things
you can do now. Make goals for yourself that you
can accomplish in the next couple
months. Goals don't have to be big. Maybe you want to improve your math grade.
Or making a new friend can be your goal. It could even be that you
want to do all your homework from now on. Now, set your
sights on reaching that goal. Write
your goals down and put them somewhere that you can see every day.
You can do it!
Make a New Friend
Everyone knows school isn't all about studying. It's also a place
for fun, and making new friends is one of the best parts. Walk into
your first day with a big smile on your face. Say hi to someone who
you don't know very well. If you are doing partner activities, pick
someone who you have not been partners with before. Small things like
this go a very long way. Have fun at school with your new friends,
everyone! |
