We Look Different But We Are Triplets!    [06-08-2010]

On July 17, a cow named Coco gave birth to very special triplets on a dairy farm in England. It is very rare for a cow to give birth to triplets. Fortunately, the calves are all very healthy. There¡¯s one more surprising thing about them; It¡¯s hard to believe, but they are of different breeds!

Cows usually give birth to one calf at a time. The chances of having triplets are 105,000 to one, and the odds of having same sex triplets are about 700,000 to one. Therefore, it is almost a miracle for a cow to give birth to triplets.

The miracle happened to Coco. Even more rarely, she gave birth to triplets of different breeds! Her owner Anthony Gothard was very surprised to see the unusual calves. ¡°I still can¡¯t believe this. This is a miracle,¡± said Anthony, who runs a dairy farm in Somerset, a county in Southwest England.

He was very happy when Coco had the first calf, which was a male. When he returned later to see the calf, he found another female calf. He was very surprised when he returned to check them about an hour later. Coco had given birth to the third one!

¡°I have been working on this farm for 20 years but I¡¯ve never experienced such a thing before,¡± Anthony said with joy. ¡°Coco gave birth to two different breeds of calf - two Belgian Blue Cross calves and one Charolais Cross, which makes it even more amazing!¡±
