This
week, let¡¯s meet someone very special. His name is Edward Nino Hernandez.
He is 24 years old and he lives in Colombia. Can you guess why he is special?
He is the shortest man in the world!
He is only the size of a piece of carry-on airplane luggage!
Last week, Mr. Hernandez was officially certified as the
world¡¯s shortest living man by Guinness World Records. According to his mother,
he weighed just 1.5 kilograms
and was 38 centimeters long at birth. He hasn¡¯t grown
since he was 2 years old. ¡°Doctors studied him until he was 3, but
they never could explain why my son is so
small,¡± his mother said.
Then, how
short is he now as an adult? He is only 70 centimeters
tall and weighs just 10 kilograms. The previous title-holder was
He Pingping of China, who was 74 centimeters tall. Sadly, he died in March.
So, how does Mr. Hernandez feel about his world title? ¡°I feel happy
because I¡¯m unique,¡± he said with a big smile. Even though
he dropped out school in the 8th grade, he enjoys his life
and has many friends. He is very sociable and loves to travel.
He also likes to play dominoes with his girlfriend
who is 1.5 meters tall.
Mr. Hernandez must be very happy about his uniqueness. However, the
world¡¯s shortest living man title is not likely to last long. This is because
when a boy from Nepal turns 18 in October, he is
expected to take over the title. He is
about 56 centimeters tall. He is currently recognized by Guinness
World Records as the shortest living teenager. Let¡¯s wait and
see how tall he will end up growing by next month! |
