A growing
number of animals are under threat of becoming extinct due to global
warming. Arctic animals are especially suffering from climate change
and many of them are already on the list of endangered species.
Sadly, 17 more species, including the Arctic fox, recently joined
the list as well.
According to a new report released by the U.S. Center for Biological
Diversity (CBD), the number of endangered species is increasing.
The center warned that many Arctic animals are in danger of going
extinct.
For example, the number of Arctic foxes is reducing as the ice caps
melt. Sea ice in the Arctic fell to its lowest level since records
began in 2007. Scientists predict the area could be largely ice
free in summer within 10 years.
The CBD said that Arctic animals are at risk from the melting ice.
¡°Arctic animals are all in danger,¡± said Shaye Wolf, the lead author
of the report. ¡°The polar bear is the best-known victim of rapid
melting in the Arctic, but if we don¡¯t cut greenhouse pollution,
many more creatures will follow it down the path to extinction,¡±
she added.
Arctic animals are suffering from climate change and extreme weather
events. They are losing their habitats and food sources. As a result,
many Arctic species are undergoing population decline.?
