A
week ago, a very special pony was born in Devon, England.
Look at the picture. The little pony has black spots on its white body like
a Dalmatian dog! But he is not a dog but a British spotted pony. The
baby horse was born to a chocolate brown mare and a spotted male pony.
Actually, his father shares the same unusual coloring. British spotted
ponies have a variety of color types.
Some of them have white spots on a dark background. Every year, about
170 spotted ponies are born in England. Their spots act as a natural camouflage in the wild.
Spotted ponies were considered as holy animals by the ancient Romans due to their
unique looks. During Roman times, the horses were
presented to important officers as a sign of their
power. |
