Today, hundreds of thousands of people all over the world keep cats as pets. In fact, one out of four U.S. households has a cat. The number of cat owners in also increasing in Korea. Cats sure are lovely animals.

But how much do you know about them?

Did you know that a pet cat sleeps for up to 14 hours a day? A normal house cat spends 70 percent of its time sleeping! Cats seem like quiet animals.
However, they can make over 100 vocal sounds, while dogs can only make 10. The average pet cat spends about 10,950 hours purring in its lifetime.

Cats have amazing abilities. Most cats can survive even when they fall from high trees or buildings. That¡¯s why people believe they have nine lives! Cats also have wonderful eyesight. They can see about six times better than humans at night.

Cats use their whiskers to determine if a space is big enough to squeeze through.
The whiskers act as antennae, helping them judge the exact width of passages. However, most cats don¡¯t have eyelashes.

If you have a pet cat, take a close look at its ears, nose, and jaw. Amazingly, a cat has 32 muscles in each ear and every cat¡¯s nose pad is different, just like human fingerprints. Cats¡¯ jaws cannot move sideways.
