These days, many children
choose to eat nutritional
snacks for their health. Eating smart is very important for staying
healthy. But you should think twice before eating
so-called ¡°healthy snacks¡± sold in supermarkets.
According to British health
experts, cereal bars and
other similar food products are filled
with sugar!
Researchers from the Faculty
of Public Health (FPH) in Britain found in their new study that most cereal bars
contain a lot of sugar. ¡°We
found that many cereal bars are loaded with sugar. Some bars sold
in supermarkets are about 70 percent sugar!¡± said Alan Maryon-Davis,
president of the FPH. ¡°Before buying and eating a cereal bar, you
should check how much sugar it contains,¡± he advised.
Today, sugar is used in bulk in a lot of food products.
Therefore, you may end up
eating a lot of sugar without even knowing it.
People usually believe that healthy
snacks don¡¯t contain harmful ingredients, including sugar. They also
think that eating healthy snacks is really good for their health.
Sadly, however, this is not
true.
Some cereal
bars made with dried fruits and grains contain more sugar
than chocolate ice cream! Chocolate ice cream contains only about
20 percent sugar. But some fruit and raisin bars are 50 percent
sugar! In other words, eating a
cereal bar for your health can actually be bad for your
health!
The British health experts warn that eating too much
sugar can cause many health problems
such as tooth decay and obesity. It can also increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes. They are calling
on the food companies to cut down the amount of sugar they use.
Be a smart eater and don¡¯t be fooled by the advertising descriptions.
