On
November 21, Canadian teenage singer Justin Bieber swept the American
Music Awards. The awards ceremony was held in Los Angeles, U.S. He
proved his huge popularity and talent to the whole world by taking home
four prizes: Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop Album, Breakthrough Artist, and
Favorite Male Pop Artist.
It must have been the best day of his life. The young singer repeatedly thanked his fans for their
great support and love. ¡°I never
knew I could become famous for my singing.
You see, I¡¯m from the smallest town in the world. I never thought
this could be possible,¡± he said as he
accepted the Breakthrough
Artist Award.
The amazing pop-R&B singer
was born on March 1, 1994, in Ontario, Canada. The talented musician learned
how to play various musical instruments by himself
- including the piano, guitar,
trumpet, and drums.
He gained huge popularity in
early 2007 at the age of 12 when he sang Ne-Yo¡¯s ¡®So Sick¡¯ for a local singing competition
in his small hometown. He grabbed the
second spot at the contest. Justin¡¯s mother posted the video of the performance on YouTube for
their family and friends to see. Since then she kept uploading video clips of her son singing
various R&B songs. Many Internet users saw the video clips and
fell in love with the young boy¡¯s voice. That¡¯s how he gained huge
popularity.
In 2008, a U.S. music manager named Scooter Braun happened to see
Justin¡¯s videos on YouTube. He thought the young boy had an amazing
talent for singing. Later, he became the young boy¡¯s manager and helped
him to become a professional singer.
Justin released his debut single
¡®One Time¡¯ in 2009 and it charted within the top 30 in over 10 countries
around the world. In November of that year, he released the EP My
World, which went on to sell more than 1 million copies in the U.S.
alone.
In March this year, the young singer released his first full studio album My World
2.0 and it became a best-selling album in many
countries, including the U.S. The album has sold almost 2 million
copies in the U.S. since its release. Way to go, Justin! |
