Who
do you think the most popular modern U.S. president is?
Some of you may think it is Ronald Reagan. It is true that he was
one of the most famous presidents in the
world. In fact, he is still respected by not only people in the U.S.
but also many people in other countries. Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter
were also wonderful presidents. However, they were not the most popular
presidents in U.S. history. Then, who is the
most famous president?
According to a new survey published last Monday, President
John F. Kennedy (JFK) is the highest-rated U.S. president
in modern history. The survey asked U.S. citizens about their favorite president and the
majority chose JFK as their
favorite president. President Ronald Reagan, who served as the 40th
President of the U.S. from 1981 to 1989, came in second with a 74
percent approval rating.
So, who is John F. Kennedy? John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born on May
29, 1917 in Massachusetts. In 1940, he graduated from Harvard with
a degree in international affairs. Then,
he attended classes at the Stanford
Graduate School of Business.
Kennedy became the 35th president of the U.S. after defeating Richard Nixon in
the 1960 U.S. presidential election. He
served from 1961 until his death in 1963. Although JFK passed away
a long time ago, he is still
remembered as the best president in U.S. history.
JKF was
unique in many ways. He was
the first U.S. president to be born in the 20th century. He was the second
youngest president after Theodore Roosevelt and the youngest man elected
as president at the age of 43. Kennedy
was the only Catholic and the first Irish-American
president. In addition, he was the only
president to have won a Pulitzer Prize.
Sadly, Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963 in Texas. A 24-year-old
man named Lee Harvey Oswald was charged with the crime. He was shot and killed
by a nightclub operator in Dallas named
Jack Ruby two days later. Even though JFK couldn¡¯t
finish his presidency, he is still remembered
as an innovative and charismatic leader. |
