Female dogs usually give birth to litters of more than two dogs at a time. Sometimes they give birth to as many as 10 or more puppies! To our surprise, an amazing dog gave birth to a very large number of puppies and all of them are very healthy!

In September of this year, a dog named Etana gave birth to a litter of 17 puppies in Northern Berlin, Germany. She is a Rhodesian Ridgeback, an African lion hunting dog originating from Zimbabwe. Her babies have all been given African names as a reflection of their breed. Surprisingly, they are all in very good condition.

When dogs give birth to a large number of puppies, four to five puppies usually die within the first week. It¡¯s very rare for all of them to survive. ¡°All of the puppies survived. This is incredible and wonderful,¡± said owner Ramona Wegemann. The 17 puppies are Etana¡¯s second litter. The 4-year-old dog previously gave birth to a litter of eight.

¡°The second litter was born on September 28 and they are all very healthy and lovely. But it wasn¡¯t easy to take care of them at first,¡± explained Ramona. ¡°I had to feed the puppies five times a day for the first four weeks because their mother did not have enough milk. When I was finished feeding the last puppy, the first was hungry again. I couldn¡¯t really sleep for the first three weeks.¡±

Thanks to her love and care, all of the puppies could survive. Be nice to your owner, puppies!
