Michael Jordan was one of the best basketball players in the world. He is called the greatest player of all time. His nickname is "Air Jordan." He got the nickname thanks to his amazing leaping ability! Nike even made Air Jordan sneakers in 1985 and they are still popular today! He retired in 2003, but the world still remembers the basketball legend. And many children all over the world think of him as their role model. Do you want to know why? Then, keep reading!

Michael Jordan was born on February 17, 1963 in New York City. As a child, Michael was more interested in playing baseball than he was in basketball. When his Babe Ruth team won the state championship, he was named MVP (Most Valuable Player). He was always ready to win in any situation. He was a very hard-working boy and he always tried his best. He came to school at 6 am to practice every morning!
Jordan began playing basketball at the University of North Carolina. He played with the Chicago Bulls from 1984, and he helped his team to win their 5th World Championship in 7 years. In his career with the Chicago Bulls, his average was 31.7 points per game. This is an all time record! He was named as the National Basketball Association (NBA)'s MVP in 1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, and 1997. Jordan also holds 9 NBA scoring titles.

Jordan retired in 1993 and turned to professional baseball.
But he returned to the Chicago Bulls in 1995. In 1998, he won his 6th NBA title with the Chicago Bulls. Jordan retired in 1999 again, but made a comeback with the Washington Wizards in 2001.
He finally retired in 2003. In 2006, he became part owner of the Charlotte Bobcats. The Charlotte Bobcats are a professional basketball team based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Michael Jordan is just a human being like everyone else. But his passion and concentration made him special. Jordan worked hard for everything he was doing. And he inspired others to work hard for what they want.
