Sometimes
your teacher breaks the class into small groups. He or she then gives
each group an assignment. This assignment
may take days, weeks or even
months to finish. Well, have you ever wondered why your teacher gives
you a group project? Projects are definitely popular in school, and it's
something you will have to do even when you go to higher grades. I know you want a
good grade. And I know you want to be successful. But before that,
let me tell you something about group projects that you didn't
know about.
Why Do Teachers Give Group Projects?
You see, the world is full of people. And nobody can live alone. Group projects can
help you prepare for high school, college and real life. Just ask
your parents. When they work to make money, they must work
together with many different people. By doing group work, you can
learn something called "people skills." Think about it.
You must work together with different people with different ideas.
This is a great practice for you to learn
about working with other people. Plus, group projects are a great
chance for you to make new friends with kids you didn't know that
well in the past.
A
Great Experience to Improve Yourself!
Other than the fact that group projects improve your skills to work
with people, it's also a great way to improve yourself. To be successful
in a group project, you need to know how to work on a deadline, stay organized and learn how to
be patient. If you are a kind
of person who gets nervous talking in front of a lot of people,
it's a perfect way to help you become
more confident in talking in front
of people. In a group project, you also need to carefully listen to others.
There's no better way than a group project
to improve your personal skills.
Be Fair!
One common problem in a group
project is that sometimes one person ends up doing all the work. From the beginning, divide the work fairly and evenly. If you feel like
you or someone else is doing too much work, gently bring the topic up
with the group. It's also a good idea to have a leader in a group. A leader
should help the group stay on track. It doesn't
have to be the same person every time. In fact, it's better if it's
not.
What
If There Is a Problem?
There may be a situation where you just
can't stand the way one group member
talks or acts over other people. The best way to solve this is to talk about
the problem in a nice way. A good group requires honesty and everyone's involvement. It's also a
good idea to ask your parents for help on a big project. It's fine
if they give you advice. However, it's not
right for them to do the
actual work for you. They
shouldn't do your research or write the letters
on your poster. Yeah, I know they
can do a great job. But like other homework, group project is to help
you learn by doing something with your classmates. So, are you ready
to get an A in your project? |
