is very important in our lives. You can buy many things with it ?
from food to books. In fact, you can’t live without money in today’s
world. That is why your parents work hard to make money. But does money
make you happy, too?
Researchers in America conducted a worldwide survey to see if money can
really make people happy. The researchers at the University of Illinois
asked more than 136,000 people in 132 countries through telephone
surveys and door-to-door interviews from
2005 and 2006 about happiness.
The researchers analyzed people’s income, standard of living, life satisfaction, and the
day-to-day feelings they
experienced. They found after
studying the data that life
satisfaction rises with personal and national income.
 However,
feeling happy was not strongly related to money.
Most of the people said that other factors such as feeling respected, having fun with
good friends, and having a fulfilling job made them happy.
“We found in this study that money can’t buy you true happiness,” said Professor
Ed Diener, who led the research. “Everyone wonders if money can make
us happy. This study shows that money can’t really give us positive feelings, including excitement and fun.”
“It is true that getting richer makes people more satisfied with their
lives. However, money may not have a big impact on enjoying
life,” Professor Diener added. “Feeling happy is
more important than having a lot of money.” |
