 When
your tooth hurts, you go to the dentist. After getting a
treatment, you feel a lot
better. Taking good care of your teeth is very important. Then, what
can animals do when their teeth hurt? Well, they can ask dentists
to visit them! Last Wednesday, a polar bear living at a zoo
in Scotland got a visit from dentists for treatment.
The polar bear’s name is Walker and he lives at the Highland Wildlife
Park in Scotland. He came to Scotland in November last year from a
zoo in Holland. Recently, he was suffering
from a sore tooth. A team of four
vets, including a dentist, paid
a visit to the zoo to help the two-year-old bear.
 He needed
dental surgery due to an infection, which had left
him with a swollen jaw. However, lifting the polar bear on
to the operating table wasn’t easy.
Since he weighs more than 240 kilograms,
10 people had to lift him!
“The vets had to remove the infected tooth and the operation
lasted four hours. Thankfully,
the operation was very successful and Walker is totally healthy again
now,” said a park spokesman. “I hope he will
take better care of his teeth from now on!” |
