 Cats
are lovely animals. Many people all over the world keep pet cats at home because
they don’t make noisy sounds like dogs. They just purr when they feel good.
However, a 12-year-old pet cat living in England can make a noise
as loud as a lawnmower! In fact, she is
waiting for Guinness World Records’ official approval as the
loudest cat in the world!
The amazing cat’s name is Smokey
and she lives in Northampton with her owners Ruth and Mark Adams.
According to her owners,
Smokey is a very unique cat. She purrs so
loudly that they cannot hear the television or radio when she is in
the room. Sometimes having telephone conversations is impossible! Most cats purr
at around 25 decibels, but Smokey’s averages 80 decibels.
 “Smokey
is probably the nosiest cat
in the world. She even manages to purr while she eats. When I’m on
the phone, my friends often ask what the loud noise is and they can’t
believe it is coming from a cat,” said Mrs. Adams. “She purrs nearly all the time. The
only time she is quiet is when she is asleep!”
Mrs. Adams adopted Smokey from a rescue center 3 years ago
for her 10-year-old daughter Amy. The family has 2 dogs and 2 other
cats, but Smokey is the loudest cat they have ever heard. “I have
never heard anything like her purr in my life. I don’t know why she
does it. But she always looks very happy. She is just very loud,”
said Mr. Adams. “Smokey is Amy’s best friend and my daughter thinks
her loud purring is lovely.” |
