Apple¡¯s
legendary CEO Steve Jobs
is back with the iPad 2. He has been ill over the past years and he took his
medical leave in January.
He is suffering from pancreatic cancer and many
people thought his condition was hopeless. However, he made
a surprise appearance last week at an Apple event held in San Francisco to
unveil the latest version of the
iPad. People were surprised by his appearance and welcomed him with
open arms.
Born on February 24, 1955 in San Francisco, Steven Paul Jobs is the
co-founder and CEO of Apple.
He is also a member of the board of The Walt Disney
Company since 2006. Previously, he worked for
Pixar Animation Studios as chief executive and participated
in making the famous animated movie Toy Story
in 1995 as an executive producer.
In the late 1970s, Jobs introduced the Apple II series,
one of the first commercially successful lines of personal computers.
In 1984, he resigned from Apple and founded NeXT, a computer
platform development company. In 1996, Apple brought
him back to the company and he has served as its CEO since 1997.
Jobs led
his company to success after success by developing the iPhone series
and iPad. Sadly, however, the iconic businessman started suffering
from health problems since 2004. He had to take a six-month medical leave of absence
to treat pancreatic cancer in
Switzerland. He also received a liver transplant in the U.S.
in early 2009.
When he went on his second medical leave on January 17 this year,
many people believed that he may not make a comeback. However,
he made a surprise comeback on March 2 to introduce the second version
of iPad. He lost a lot of weight, but he looked healthy.
He was greeted with a standing ovation. ¡°We¡¯ve
been working on this product quite a while and I just
didn¡¯t want to miss a great day. I came
here to unveil the iPad 2 myself,¡± said Jobs. ¡°Thank you for having
me.¡±
Jobs did not mention about his health
or when he would return. Let¡¯s hope he will
get well soon and make a
comeback! |
