We
need a variety of resources to
live. There are many different kinds of resources on Earth. You may
think we have plenty of them. But if we
don¡¯t use them wisely, future generations will suffer from a lack of resources.
According to a British think-tank called the New
Economics Foundation (NEF), humans are using up global resources faster
than ever.
The NEF recently looked at how much food, fuel, and other resources
are consumed by humans every year. Then they compared the results to how
much the world can provide without threatening the ability of important ecosystems (like oceans and
rainforests) to recover.
The
foundation¡¯s latest statistics on global resources
showed that people are consuming resources in the world too fast due
to the growing world population. According
to Andrew Simms, Policy Director at the NEF, increased consumption
will dry up global resources if
we don¡¯t save them.
¡°People in developing countries like China are consuming more meat
and demanding more cars as well as other energy-consuming goods,¡±
Mr. Simms explained. ¡°In addition,
developed countries are also consuming more resources and energies
as individuals demand the latest technology,
well-being foods, and new cars.¡±

Spending global resources too fast will lead to serious problems.
First of all, it will speed up climate change and destroy ecosystems. Fuel
prices will also go up and future generations will experience food shortages and rising
global temperatures.
The NEF urged people to make efforts to save global resources. Otherwise,
humans will suffer from hunger and poverty. Let¡¯s save energy
and other resources to prevent poverty and food
shortages in the future! |
