From
July 28 to August 25, Times Core¡¯s first international English camp
was held in Clark Freeport Zone in the Philippines. A total of 31 elementary
and middle school students from across the nation participated in
the special 12-week camp to improve their English. Other than learning English,
the students also enjoyed a variety of fun activities
including swimming and watching
animal shows.
Yet, the special 12-week camp wasn¡¯t an ordinary camp. The 31 students
prepared for the camp in advance over 4 weeks in
Korea by learning English over the phone from the teachers in Clark.
Then, they spent another 4 weeks in the Philippines with their teachers.
Every student had his/her own teacher. After coming back to Korea,
they studied with their teachers again over the phone.
The 4-week
camp in Clark consisted of a daily 8-hour class and 2
hours of self-study. The students
did their homework, kept a diary in English, and prepared for the
next class every day before going to bed. The tight schedule was not easy
for the young students to follow. However, everyone
did a wonderful job!
Besides the 31 teachers for each student, there were 5 more head teachers,
who monitored the students¡¯ study
progress, guiding them to
fully concentrate on their studies.
The class started early in the morning every day, but everyone attended
class on time. ¡°I was very surprised
to see everyone sitting in the classroom at 8:30 a.m. every morning,¡±
said Times Core CEO, Lee Jung-sig.
After
studying hard, the students were allowed to relieve their stress by
swimming in the pool inside their dormitory. On the weekends,
they also had a lot of fun at nearby theme parks and safari parks, enjoying the
nice weather.
In order to inform the parents of how
their children were doing and what they were learning in the Philippines,
Times Core opened a website (www.timescamp.co.kr) where the parents
could see pictures and video clips of the students.
At
the closing ceremony of the camp,
each student was given a certificate as well as many
other prizes and awards. They also
presented singing and dancing
performances for their teachers.
In return, the teachers sang
a beautiful song for the students. After eating a delicious lunch
together, the students and teachers played fun games together.
Finally it was time to say good-bye to the teachers.
Everyone thanked the teachers for their hard work and kindness. Some even burst into tears. The teachers
promised to talk to the children again over the phone. On August 25,
everyone came back to Korea safely, cherishing their extra special memories. |
