Winfrey is called the "talk show queen." She is one of the
most successful women in the world.
But when she was a little girl, her life was very tough. Her family was poor.
And her mother didn't take good care of her. But
she didn't give up hope and learned
how to love herself. Finally, she found her dream
job and became a billionaire! This week, let's
meet the amazing talk show queen!
Oprah Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954 in Mississippi. She was
raised by her grandmother. His father was living in another city.
Her mother was always busy working. Her only friends were the farm animals.
On Sundays, Oprah used to go to the church
with her grandmother. She first spoke in public at the church.
Her first recital was at Easter time
when she was 3 years old. From that day on, she was always the first
child to be asked to recite. At age 4, she became
known as "the little speaker."
When
Oprah was attending high school, she
continued with her public speaking to churches
and women's groups. She loved having the attention of people. In her
last year of high school, she decided to have a job that had something
to do with speaking.
At age 19, she became a reporter. But she wasn't
a good reporter.
She cried while telling a sad story. And she liked to show her opinions. When she was 22,
she was fired from her reporting job.
In 1978, she became a co-host of a morning talk
show called "People Are Talking." After the first show,
Oprah discovered her talent for hosting talk shows. Soon,
she made the show popular.
In 1985, the show's named changed to "The Oprah Winfrey Show."
Oprah was the first person to run her own show.
In less
than a year, her show became the number one talk show in America!
Oprah touched many people's lives - she laughed and cried with them.
In 1987, "The Oprah Winfrey Show" won three Daytime Emmy
Awards. In 1988, Oprah received the International
Radio and Television Society's "Broadcaster of the Year"
Award. She is the youngest person and fifth
woman to ever receive this award. She was also named one of the 100
