Do you enjoy skiing in the winter? Many people all around the world enjoy the fun winter activity. There are many wonderful ski resorts in the world. We have many good ones in Korea, too. But have you ever skied in the North Pole? I¡¯m sure you haven¡¯t. To our surprise, a 16-year-old British boy went there to become the world¡¯s youngest person to ski to the North Pole!

The amazing boy¡¯s name is Parker Liautaud and he lives in London. He attends the prestigious Eton College, a British independent school for boys aged 13 to 18. The school, which was founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, is the most famous pubic school in the world. The 19th British Prime Minister David Cameron also graduated from the school.

Last week, Parker began his long journey in Norway to go to the North Pole. It is his second time to go there. He tried to become the world¡¯s youngest person to ski to the North Pole last year. Sadly, however, he had to give up because of injury and terrible weather condition. ¡°I hope to succeed this time,¡± he said.

Then, why is he trying to ski to the North Pole, where he has to face an average temperature of minus 35¡É? He will also have to burn 9,000 calories a day and pull a very heavy sled. ¡°I am an environmental campaigner and I will take snow and ice thickness measurements as part of ongoing climate change research for Canada¡¯s University of Alberta,¡± he explained. ¡°I will provide updates on my experiences through Facebook.¡±

It is a huge challenge for the teenager. However, he will give it another try. ¡°I am an ambassador for One Young World, a global forum for youngsters with leadership potential. By becoming the world¡¯s youngest person to ski to the North Pole, I want to bring this important message of climate change to world leaders.¡±

¡°His mission will help build international support for action against climate change and protect the polar regions,¡± said David Jones, Co-founder of One Young World. ¡°We are very proud of Parker and wish him every success on his challenging expedition. We will be following him every step of the way online.¡±

Good luck with your expedition, Parker!
