Vending machines come in handy when you are
running out of time. The machines usually sell drinks and snacks.
But have you ever seen a vending machine that sells fresh crabs? If you go to China,
you can buy live crabs on your way home from a vending machine!
The automatic crab machines have
been installed at several subway stations in Nanjing
for busy people who don¡¯t have enough time to go grocery shopping. The
crabs are sold in three sizes - large, medium, and small - and the
prices range from 10 to 50
yuan (about 1,700 to 8,500 won). They are packed into custom-fitted plastic boxes
and chilled to 5¡É to keep them
alive.
If someone is unlucky and gets a dead one,
he or she will be offered three fresh crabs. So, do people actually
use the machines? Yes, they do! In fact, the automatic crab
dispensers are gaining huge popularity among busy people. Hundreds
of crabs are sold each day and more at weekends! If we also have such
machines in Korea, our moms won¡¯t have to go to the supermarket to
buy fresh crabs! |
