The 2010 Asian Games is being held in Guangzhou, China. Guangzhou became the second Chinese city to host the Games, after Beijing in 1990. The fantastic opening ceremony was held on November 12. Are you enjoying the exciting games? Korean athletes are doing great and they already won many medals! But wait a minute; how much do you know about the Asian Games? Keep reading and learn some interesting facts about this Asian sporting event!

The opening ceremony was held along the Pearl River under the theme ¡®water¡¯, since Guangzhou is the city of water. About 6,000 performers took part in fantastic shows and the athletes from all over Asia paraded along the river in boats. Korean singer Kim Hyun-joong, a member of the famous boy band SS501, sang a song with four other Chinese singers to celebrate the event.

The motto of the 2010 Asian Games is ¡°Thrilling Games, Harmonious Asia.¡± All 45 members of the Olympic Council of Asia are participating in the Games. A total of 9,704 athletes are taking part in 476 events in 42 sports throughout the 16 days of the competition. The 2010 Asian Games is the largest event in the history of the Asian Games.

In this year¡¯s Asian Games some interesting sports have been added, including dance sports, roller sports, baduk, chess, cricket, and dragon boat. South Korea sent 1,013 athletes to Guangzhou to compete in 41 sports, with the exception of cricket. North Korean athletes are also participating in many games, except Taekwondo.

The 2010 Asian Games will finish on November 27. The closing ceremony will be held tomorrow with many wonderful performances beginning at 8:06 p.m., local time. Let¡¯s give all the athletes a big hand while watching the ceremony. They all did their very best! Good job, everyone!
