Tag on School Playground!
Do
you like playing tag? I'm sure most kids love it! When play tag, you and your friends
take turn and catch each other, running around.
It sure is a fun game and a good form of exercise. But an elementary school in Santa
Monica recently banned tag on its playground. This is because
the game create self-esteem issues among weaker and slower children.
"It causes a lot of conflict on the playground,"
said Franklin Elementary School Principal Pat Samarge. The
principal said children playing tag suffered both physical and emotional injuries. Weaker
and slower children often complained they were harassed or chased against their will.
So the principal decided to ban tag at school, and most parents agreed
with him. But he said running games are still allowed as long as students don't
chase each other.
China's
Great Wall Becoming Less and Less Great
The Great Wall of China was chosen as top of the new
Seven Wonders of the World last month. It was built over 2,000 years
ago by the first emperor of China during the Qin Dynasty (221 B.C.- 206 B.C.)
The Great Wall is one of the most popular tourist spots in the world.
The United Nations listed the Great Wall as
a World Heritage Site¼¼°èÀ¯»êµî·ÏÁö in 1987.
About 10 million people visit there every year. But sadly, sand storms in northwest China are reducing
sections of the Great Wall.
The storms may even cause the wall to disappear in about 20 years!
More than 60 kilometers of the wall built in the Han Dynasty (206
B.C.-220 A.D.) had disappeared in the past 20 years. The wall has
been rebuilt many times through
the centuries, and many sections of it have suffered serious damage from weather erosion and human destruction.
The Richest Dog in the World!
Have you ever
met a rich dog? What? How can a dog be rich? Well, it's hard to believe,
but there is a rich dog living in the U.S. Her name is Trouble and
she lives in New York. And she recently became the richest dog in the world!
Trouble is a white Maltese and her owner was a famous billionaire. She had a lot
of money before she died. Her owner Leona Helmsley passed away on
August 20 at 87, and she left 12 million dollars for her dog. The
funny thing is Helmsley didn't
even leave a dollar for her grandchildren! Unlike her name, Trouble
is not in trouble. In fact, she is a very lucky dog!
Trouble will be cared for by Helmsley's brother Alvin Rosenthal. Helmsley
also left 10 million dollars for her brother. See? Trouble got even more money than her
owner's brother!
Helmsley said in her will that when Trouble dies, the dog will be buried alongside her and her husband
Harry Helmsley, who died in 1997.
I wonder how Trouble is going
to spend her money. I guess
she will ask her new owner to buy her lots and lots of Milk-bones! |
