We have to say good-bye to the year 2010 soon. It has been a pretty eventful year with so many good and bad events happening. According to the Met Office¿µ±¹±â»óû, this year was also the hottest year ever.

Although it¡¯s freezing outside these days, 2010 was the hottest year on record globally.

The Met Office recently said that the world as a whole has been 0.52 degrees warmer this year than the 30 year average (1961 - 1990) of 14 degrees. According to the U.K. national weather service, this year¡¯s average global temperature was equal with 1998, when an El Nino in the Pacific made the world warmer.

The World Meteorological Organization¼¼°è ±â»ó ±â±¸also said the world was 0.55 degrees hotter in 2010, making it the hottest year since records began in 1850.

The figures were released at the latest United Nations climate change summit held in Cancun, Mexico. The data is backed up by the U.S. national weather service and NASA. The 16th summit was held from November 29 to December 10 with leaders from 194 countries participating. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also delivered a speech at the summit about the importance of international cooperation in efforts to ward off global warming.

Weather experts from the U.K. weather agency said that man-made global warming is the main cause for these internationally high temperatures. Next year is also expected to be warmer than average because of the high levels of greenhouse gases.

The fastest warming has been seen in the Arctic, Africa, and Southern Asia. On the other hand, northern Europe, North America, and Asia have all had cooler years. According to Dr. Adam Scaife, head of long-range forecasting at the Met Office, the last decade has been on average 0.46 degrees hotter. ¡°This year is clearly warmer than last year,¡± he said.

However, Dr. Scaife predicts that next year will be just 0.44 degrees hotter. ¡°Our predictions are usually correct. Our data shows that the world is warming and could jump up even more if there is another strong El Nino.
The whole world has to work together to prevent further climate change,¡± he explained.
