The year 2011 has just begun and it¡¯s the perfect time to start anew. What do you want to achieve this year? What are your goals for the New Year? Most people make wonderful New Year¡¯s resolutions, but not many people actually keep them throughout the year. It is important to learn how to keep your New Year¡¯s resolutions. Let¡¯s learn several easy steps to accomplish your goals.

<Choose Realistic Goals>
Planning is the first step for achieving any goal. However, in order to achieve your goals, you have to choose realistic ones. For example, losing 5 kilograms in a week is not a realistic goal. It¡¯s not a good idea to push yourself with unrealistic goals as this will give you a lot of stress and you may even lose self-confidence. If you want to make your dreams come true, choose specific, achievable goals.

<Start with Small Steps>
After making new plans, take small steps at first. Start with small things in order to finally achieve your bigger goals. Dividing a big goal into small steps can help you achieve it easily. For example, if your goal is to run an entire marathon, start out by going for a jog two or three times a week. Never try to run the whole distance on your first try. If you do, you might end up quitting your goals very quickly!

<Pick Just One Resolution>
Many people tend to make a long list of New Year¡¯s Resolutions. This is understandable because we are usually full of hope and energy when we celebrate the New Year. However, keeping all of them is very hard. Then, why don¡¯t you just choose the most important resolution? If you focus your energy on one thing, there is higher possibility of achieving it.

<Get Support from Your Family & Friends>
You often need to get help or support from other people to achieve your goals. If you have some people who can support you, you can stay motivated. Tell your goals to your family or close friends and ask them to help you achieve them. For example, if you decide not to eat junk food anymore, ask your parents and friends to eat healthier food together.

<Don¡¯t Repeat the Same Mistakes>
If you want to avoid repeating past failures, do not make the exact same resolution year after year. Your self-confidence can decrease if you keep failing to achieve the same goal every year. However, if a certain goal is so important that you want to accomplish it this year again, take some time to make an effective strategy. Think about your past mistakes and why you failed. Then, you will come up with better ideas and be able to achieve it!
