Habits
have amazing powers. Habits, good
or bad, make you who you are. They can actually change your life,
too. Therefore, building good
habits is very important. Since old habits are hard to change, developing good habits early
on in life will bring life-long benefits. January is the
perfect month for making
plans to build good habits. Read on and learn how to build good habits!
<Think about Your Bad Habits First>
Everyone has at least one bad habit that
needs fixing. Think about your
bad habits carefully and write them
down. You can also ask your family or friends about your habits. Sometimes
other people know more about your habitual behavior. When you
have found out what all your bad habits are, it¡¯s time to make plans
to change them into good ones.
<Change
One Habit at a Time>
Even though you may have many bad habits, you cannot change them all at once. After all, it is almost impossible
to become a whole new person overnight. It takes time
to change your old habits. First, pick the habit you want to
change the most. Then, decide how you want to change
it and practice every day until
it becomes a new habit. It may take about a month to build a new habit.
<Replace Old Habits with New
Ones>
When you give something up it is important to replace it. For instance, if you want
to become healthier in the New Year, don¡¯t just quit eating your favorite
snacks all at once. It won¡¯t last very long and you may
end up eating junk food again. Choose healthier alternatives such as fruits
and yogurt instead of not eating anything
at all.
<Ask
Your Parents for Help>
You are still young and you need your parents¡¯ help to build good
habits. Talk with them about your bad habits and how to break them. For example,
if you tend to sleep late into the morning,
you need to change your sleeping habits. It will
be hard for you to do this on your own, so ask your mom or dad to
help you make new, healthier sleeping habits!
<Give Yourself a Reward>
It won¡¯t be easy to stick with your new habits.
It will take time and effort. Giving yourself a
reward can help you to stay motivated. Offer yourself a reward if
you successfully build a new
habit. |
