As billions of fan all over the world head to the movie theaters to watch Part 2 of the final chapter in the Harry Potter series, one cannot help but reminisce about how 10 years have passed since the first installment appeared on the silver screen.

In 1995, Joanne Rowling (better known as J. K. Rowling) finished typing her manuscript for Harry Potter and the Philosopher¡¯s StoneÇظ®Æ÷ÅÍ¿Í ¸¶¹ý»çÀÇ µ¹ on her old manual typewriter. She was a single, broke mom, who didn¡¯t have a job. She was living on government support.

In December 1990, her mother died after battling with multiple sclerosis´Ù¹ß¼º °æÈÁõ for 10 years. Two years later, she married a television journalist and gave birth to a daughter. In 1993, the couple separated and Rowling was diagnosed with depression. Rebuilding her life back up again, she studied for a postgraduate certificate of education (PGCE) to teach in Scotland. During that time, Rowling took walks to nearby cafes to get her daughter to fall asleep and continued to work on the first Harry Potter book.

Success may seem to have happened overnight for this British writer. However, in reality, Rowling¡¯s manuscript was rejected by 12 different publishing houses before being accepted by a small publishing company called Bloomsbury a year later. Now, Rowling is a billionaire and one of the most famous faces in the literary world. Since 2001, the highly successful cinematic adaptations of the Harry Potter series have visually recreated the wondrous world of ¡°witchcraft and wizardry,¡± delighting fans and bringing new actors into the spotlight.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2Çظ®Æ÷ÅÍ¿Í Á×À½ÀÇ ¼º¹° 2 opened in theaters worldwide last week. It was a painful reminder to us that a decade has passed since we first saw the child actors stumble chubby-cheeked and smiling onto the screen. The actors are now all grown up and it is bittersweet, yet wonderful to see children become adults through the course of 10 years and 8 movies.

So, is this the end of Harry Potter? No, it is not! Rowling will open a special website on October 1 called ¡°Pottermore¡± for her fans. The website will include an online shop, an interactive pop-up book, and new information on characters from the book series. The site includes 18,000 words of additional information on characters, places, and objects in the Harry Potter universe. Fans will also be able to discuss topics on an online forum, purchase e-books, and submit artwork.
Rowling is also planning to write an encyclopedia based on all things Potter. As we come to the end of one magical journey, bidding a tearful farewell to our familiar wizard friends, we can rest assured that the kind author is waiting for us on the other side of the platform, eager to read us towards another enchanting adventure!
