World¡¯s Tallest Sand Castle

On September 1 at the Point Sebago Resort in Maine, U.S., a man named Ed Jarrett built the highest sand castle in the world! The sand castle is called the £¢Castle to the Sun,£¢and it¡¯s about 9.5 meters high. It is expected to be named the world¡¯s tallest sand castle by the Guinness Book of Records±â³×½ººÏ. Mr. Jarrett spent the whole summer to build the castle. More than 1,000 people helped build the castle for the past two months. And they used 40 dump truck loads of sand. So, why did Mr. Jarrett build the huge sand castle? He didn¡¯t build it just for fun. In fact, he built it to raise funds to help sick children with fatal illnesses. I¡¯m sure the £¢Castle of the Sun£¢will give hope to the sick children!

World¡¯s Best Beard!

Look at the pictures! Don¡¯t you think their mustaches and beards look wonderful? You may think those are fake. But surprisingly, they are real! The men in the pictures all participated in a very special contest last Saturday in England. It was the World Beard and Mustache Championships. About 250 shaggy men from around the world competed in 17 different classes of facial hair at the competition. Competitors were barred from using extensions or hair pins, although wax and hairspray were allowed in some cases. This year, Beard Team USA won four of the top honors. The event had long been dominated by German beard clubs, but the Americans made a strong showing at this year¡¯s competition. And they took victories in four categories. A 23-year-old man named Jack Passion from San Francisco won the highly competitive £¢Full Natural Beard£¢competition. £¢I feel fantastic. I have the best beard in the world!£¢Jack said. The first World Beard and Mustache Championship was held by beard lovers in Germany in 1990. The next championships will be held in Alaska in 2009.
