Spending time with your family is very important. Enjoying dinner together is a perfect way to talk about your daily lives with your family members. You feel happier if you get along well with your parents, brothers or sisters. Sadly, however, many families spend more time watching television than sitting around the dinner the with their loved ones these days.

Scientists at the University of California revealed last week that hugging has many health benefits. They said, it can reduce stress, relieve pain, and help maintain good relationships with others. The scientists studied 25 female volunteers to see the effects of hugging. Most of the volunteers were college students who had been in a good relationship with their boyfriends for at least six months.

The study found that hugging or holding the hand of a loved one can reduce their pain during times of distress. In one test, the young women were given a mild burn. Interestingly, they felt less pain just by looking at the pictures of their loved ones!

¡°The touch or sight of a loved one seems to relieve their pain. Even a photograph of their loved one was enough to have an effect,¡± the researchers said. ¡°If you feel depressed or sad, get a hug from your friends or family and you will definitely feel better.¡±

There¡¯s another study that shows the powerful effect of hugging. Researchers at the University of North Carolina in the U.S. found that hugs decrease the risk of heart disease. They also found that hugging and hand-holding reduce the effects of stress. People who were regularly hugged by their dear ones had healthier and happier lives.

Are you still in doubt of the benefits a hug can bring? Then, just give it a try. Give your mom or dad a hug today and see how you feel. I bet you will feel great! Hugging is easy, simple, and doesn¡¯t cost any money. But it makes your life a lot richer. Therefore, you should give hugs to your loved ones more often!
