Rudolph
is the most famous reindeer in the world. He
is famous for his bright red nose. Other reindeers
made fun of his unique nose and he felt sad.
However, he became very popular for his nose when
Santa Claus asked him to pull his sleigh. To our surprise,
a girl with a Rudolph-like red nose was born in Berkshire in England!
Connie Lloyd was born on September 2, 2008 in Berkshire. She was born
without any health problems.
However, the next day, her parents spotted a tiny red dot on her nose. Over the
next month, the red circle grew to a diameter of 4-centimeter.
By the time Connie was four
weeks old, her tiny nose turned bright red just like Rudolph the red-nosed
reindeer!
The
worried parents took their
baby to a hospital. A skin specialist said little Connie had a haemangioma°£Ç÷°üÁ¾,
a benign tumor. Sadly, however, there was
no cure for the rare condition. People made mean comments on the streets when they saw Connie¡¯s
clown nose. So the poor little girl didn¡¯t enjoy going outside.
¡°I often hid Connie to avoid horrible remarks,¡± said her mother
Zara. ¡°I used to hide her in the car
to avoid people making horrible comments on her nose.¡± Then, Connie¡¯s
parents tried to find a doctor who can cure their daughter¡¯s nose.
Finally, they found Dr. Iain
Hutchison, who specializes in treating facial disfigurements.

Recently, Connie underwent a long operation to remove the tumor on her nose
at the Royal London Hospital. It was very successful and her parents
are amazed at the results. Now the three-year-old
girl has a normal-looking nose! She
has just a small scar on her nose.
¡°We are very happy about the results of the operation. She looks like
a different child now,¡± said Connie¡¯s father Tom. ¡°Before the operation,
Connie was quite shy and when people made
comments and pointed at her nose, she
would turn her head. Now, she can finally hold her head up high!¡±
Now Connie is doing very well and she has a lot of friends. She is
looking forward to making new friends in her pre-school, which will start
on September 5. Let¡¯s hope Connie makes many good friends at her pre-school! |
