On March 7, a shocking study was released online in Archives of General Psychiatry. The study showed that a great number of American teenagers are suffering from eating disorders. The government research showed that more than half a million U.S. teens have had an eating disorder.

An eating order is a dangerous mental illness. People who are suffering from eating disorders eat far too little or far too much. They are usually unhappy with their bodies. Sadly, eating disorders are common among teens and kids. In fact, more than half million teens in the U.S. are suffering from the dangerous health conditions!

Researchers at the National Institute of Mental Health studied more than 10,000 teens aged 13 to 18 in the U.S. The researchers interviewed the children and their parents for two years from 2002 and 2004 for their study.

According to the researchers, binge-eating disorder was the most common, affecting more than 1.5 percent of children studied. However, few have received proper treatment for the serious problem. More than half of the affected teens had depression, anxiety or some other mental disorders. The study suggests that similar eating disorder rates likely exist today.
